Oh I do like to be beside the seaside...
Where better to be on a sunny autumnal day off like today but Brighton? Take photos of a clear blue sea under a near-cloudless blue sky, under a sun bright enough to let you off with having nothing but a shirt on your back. Have a tasty fresh crab or braised rabbit, washed down with pretentious Sussex wine, at the "due south" restaurant in one of the King's Road arches, on the beach!
Then visit the Royal Pavilion. This place is being restored to its original outrageously vulgar and loud Regency style; a impression of a China ...never visited by the architect John Nash, complete with fake bamboo staircases of cast iron (!) and onion-shaped domes from and minaret reminiscent of mulim India. This is a palace of kitsch but after a bottle of Sussex wine it looks a fun place. Anyway, on the way back to Berkshire I cut across Sussex to avoid the M25 and was rewarded with some magnificent views of the Downs and forests.
